Medic to Medic is proud to be sponsoring our very first physiotherapist! Alice Namanja is one of 25 students studying to be a physiotherapist at the newly welcomed course at the College of Medicine in Blantyre, Malawi.
With only 27 physiotherapists for 14 million people she recognises the value of such a profession: “Many diseases in our country leave people with some disabilities. However, in Malawi, if someone is not really working for a living, she or he is in trouble. It is here that the physiotherapy profession comes in to improve their living standards, so that at least they should be able to do some things to sustain their lives”.
Medic to Medic will cover her tuition fees, equipment and stationary costs, and give her a laptop and relevant books to help her study. We look forward to sponsoring more physiotherapists in the future because as Alice puts it: “There are so many disabled people in our country, some of whom would not have reached that stage if care had been given to them, and really my presence is going to make a very big difference”.
