Dokiso Chipofya
First Year
Dokiso was born in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and has lived in Blantyre all his life.
He has an interest in either cardiothoracic surgery or ophthalmology – but knows that he will definitely be a surgeon.
Lucy Kaomba
First Year
Lucy is the last of three children.
Lucy is interested in Paediatrics, but is unsure of what she wants to do for her ultimate career.
Isaac Mbingwani
First Year
Isaac comes from Blantyre and a family of five children.
He has found Anatomy fascinating, but would like to pursue his dream of being a cardiologist, with Lecturer in Anatomy a close second.
Peter Makosa
First Year
Peter comes from the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe, but went to boarding school in Dzenza. It was here that he first started thinking of becoming a doctor.
Peter is enjoying medical school, despite the demanding nature of the work. He hopes to become a general surgeon in the future.
Lawrence Nazimera
Second Year
Lawrence comes from the Zomba district of Malawi, where his mother is a nurse technician and his father has just retired as a primary school teacher. He is the first born in a family of five children. Before receiving a Medic to Medic scholarship, Lawrence was not able to find money for many of the daily expenses of medical school.
Lawrence was inspired by his mother, who is admired by many of her patients. He would like to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Socrates Kambalame
Second Year
Socrates originally comes from the Kasungu district, but now lives in Lilongwe.
Socrates was inspired to do medicine as the medical services in his home district were so limited that he saw a lot of patients dying from treatable conditions. He would like to specialise in neurosurgery, as there is only one neurosurgeon in Malawi.
Godwin Ulaya
Third Year
Godwin is from the Mchinji district near the Zambian border.Godwin has received several credits in his exams so far at medical school. He would like to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology, as the maternal mortality rate in Malawi is very high.
Andrew Matchado
Fourth Year
Andrew was born in the Mulanje district of Malawi. He is the eldest of three children. Before Medic to Medic selected him for a scholarship, he was relying on government loans to get him through medical school.
Andrew is currently Student President. He was Best Biochemistry Student in 2005 and past winner of the Kamwaza Design Partnership Award. He hopes to become a general surgeon, and would be “a happy man” if he could lecture in surgery at Malawi College of Medicine one day.
Charles Mtibo
Fourth Year
Charles is from the Mwanza district and a family of seven children. He is supported by his brother, who is a primary school teacher, and government loans to pay for equipment at medical school.
Charles passed his first two years at medical school with very good grades. He would like to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology in the future.
Mwayiwawo Madanitsa
Fifth Year
Mwayi comes from a village called Chirombo in the south of Malawi.
Mwayi finds medical school very interesting, and would like to specialise in infectious diseases. He has a particular interest in drug and vaccine development.
Tiwonge Khonje
Fifth Year
Tiwonge grew up in the Mzimba district in the north of Malawi, but now lives in Blantyre. Tiwonge became interested in medicine after joining the Red Cross club at school. She would like to work in paediatrics, especially in rural areas, as she believes good quality primary care can greatly reduce child mortality.
